The TSM Performance Rating System presupposes that implementing mines are compliant with the law; the System is beyond compliance.<\/p>\n
Mining facilities self-assess annually their performance against each indicator under the TSM Protocols. For each indicator, they assign either a letter grade ranging from \u201cC\u201d to \u201cAAA\u201d or, in the case of two Protocols, \u201cPass\u201d or \u201cFail\u201d, that reflects their performance. Facilities must have their self-ratings externally verified every three years.<\/p>\n

One of the key strengths of TSM is that mining companies are measured where the mining activity takes place \u2014 at the mine site. The results provide local communities with a meaningful view of how a nearby mine is faring.<\/p>\n
COMP has established the goal of having all of its member facilities achieve a Level A or better \u2014 or Pass in the case of two Protocols \u2014 in all Indicators under all 8 Protocols COMP has adopted.<\/p>\n
In two Protocols \u2014 Prevention of Child & Forced Labor, as well as Crisis Management & Communications \u2014 a mine can only Pass or Fail.<\/p>\n
Level A is broadly defined as good practice and Level AAA is defined as excellence and leadership.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a \u201cC\u201d or a \u201cFail\u201d rating means the mine did not meet an Indicator requirement under a particular Protocol; all requirements are evidence-based. It does not mean the mine is in violation of a national or local law, rule or regulation.<\/p>\n
