Martin Jacques, the British author who foretold the ascendancy of China as a world power 10 years ago, will return to Manila in an exclusive afternoon speaking engagement organized and co-presented by the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines (COMP) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) on September 10, 2019, 2:00pm at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.

As China’s growing global role gains attention abroad, businesses are also taking notice of China’s expanding influence in developing countries such as the Philippines.  Filipino businessmen are interested to know more about a new world order with China at the forefront of trade and investments, given the country’s impressive global infrastructure and connectivity program.

PCCI and COMP strongly believe there is no better expert to talk about China than Jacques, author of the best-seller “When China Rules the World: the End of the Western World and the Birth of a New Global Order”.  The book, first published in 2009, has sold over 350,000 copies and has been translated into 15 languages.  Its greatly expanded second edition was published in 2012.

Jacques is a senior fellow at theDepartment of Politics and International Studies, Cambridge University, a visiting professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and a fellow of the Transatlantic Academy in Washington DC.  Until recently, he was a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at IDEAS, a center for diplomacy and grand strategy at the London School of Economics.

Chinese Embassy Economic and Commercial Counsellor Jian Jiangjun and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles have confirmed their participation in the Event as speakers.  The Panel of Reactors is composed of Foundation for Economic Freedom President Calixto Chikiamco, Management Association of the Philippines National Issues Chair Eduardo Yap, and Former University of the Philippines Asian Center Dean Aileen Baviera.

PCCI and COMP are pleased that Mr. Jacques has agreed to come back to Manila after a highly successful speaking engagement here in 2012.  This time, he will speak before some 350 business, government, and media leaders in the event presented by COMP and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation and SGV, and supported by Sagittarius Mines, Inc.
